What is Ledermix Dental Paste?

Ledermix is a dental treatment for painful teeth, combining the antibiotic action of Demecloycline with the anti-inflammatory action of Triamcinolone.

Ledermix Paste is a preparation for the emergency treatment of acute inflammations of the dental pulp.

It contains two active substances as a fixed combination for local application in dental cavities:

• An antibiotic constituent of the tetracycline group for the treatment of bacterial infections.
• A corticosteroid for the treatment of inflammatory processes.

What is Ledermix Dental Paste used for?

Ledermix Dental Paste is a medicinal product which is used by a dentist.

Ledermix Paste is indicated for use as an intracanal medicament in teeth undergoing root canal treatment in the following situations:

• Acute irreversible pulpitis.
• Acute apical periodontitis due to an infected root canal system. Other medicaments then need to be used as subsequent dressings (e.g. calcium hydroxide) to ensure maximum disinfection since the demeclocycline has a limited antibacterial spectrum of activity.
• ​Inflammatory root resorption - both internal and external - as the initial dressing when the resorption is established. Other medicaments then need to be used as subsequent dressings (e.g. calcium hydroxide) to promote hard tissue repair.
• To prevent the development of inflammatory resorption following avulsion of fully developed teeth and other injuries (e.g. intrusion of fully developed teeth) where this type of resorption is likely to occur. Its use in these situations may also reduce the amount of replacement resorption that can occur following these injuries.
• To reduce post-operative pain by reducing the periapical inflammation. If the pain is associated with an infected root canal system, then other medicaments then need to be used as subsequent dressings (e.g. calcium hydroxide) to ensure maximum disinfection since the demeclocycline has a limited antibacterial spectrum of activity.
• To inhibit & reduce the number of bacteria within infected root canals. Other medicaments then need to be used as subsequent dressings (e.g. calcium hydroxide) to ensure maximum disinfection since the demeclocycline has a limited antibacterial spectrum of activity.
• Ledermix Paste can also be used as a pulpotomy agent in the emergency management of acute irreversible pulpitis - in these cases, it should only be used as an interim pain relief measure that must be followed by more comprehensive treatment such as pulpectomy and root canal therapy.

How is Ledermix Dental Paste used?

A small cotton wool pellet bearing Ledermix® Paste is placed on the punctiform exposed dental pulp and is fitted with a temporary closure of, for example, zinc oxide eugenol, until commencement of the final treatment.

Ledermix Dental Paste can also be used quite generally as a medicinal intermediate inlay for any type and method of root canal treatment.

What does Ledermix Dental Paste contain?

The active substances are: demeclocycline calcium (1:1) and triamcinolone acetonide.

1g paste contains 30.21 mg demeclocycline calcium (1:1) (equivalent to 30.00 mg demeclocycline hydrochloride) and 10mg triamcinolone acetonide.

Ledermix contains sodium sophite anhydrous (E221) which may rarely cause allergic reactions and bronchospasm (difficult breathing). 

Ledermix also contains calcium chloride, zinc oxidem sodium sulphite anhydrous (e221), trolamine, macrogol 3000, macrogol 4000, sodium calcium edetate, silica collodoil anhydrous and purified water. 

What to know before Ledermix Dental Paste is used on you

Do not use Ledermix Paste:

• If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to demeclocycline, triamcinolone acetonide, sodium sulfite or any of the other ingredients of Ledermix Paste.
• If you are hypersensitive to corticoids and tetracyclines (cross-allergy)
• If you have pulpitis purulenta (suppurative inflammation of the dental pulp).

Take special care with Ledermix Dental Paste

The corticoid content of the water-soluble Ledermix Paste is released during the entire period of use. Because of the antiproliferative effect of all corticoids, the inlay should not remain in contact with the exposed dental pulp over a prolonged period to prevent possible pulp necrosis; the possibility of development of chronic pulpitis should also be considered.
