Nitrolingual Glyceryl Trinitrate Sublingual Spray.

What is Nitrolingual GTN Spray?

Nitrolingual Glyceryl Trinitrate Spray (GTN Spray) is an aerosol spray applied under the tongue, which is quick and effective at reducing the workload of the heart to prevent chest pain caused by an angina attack.

How does Nitrolingual GTN Spray help with Angina?

Nitrolingual GTN Spray is a sublingual spray which means that you use it under your tongue.

The active ingredient is called glyceryl trinitrate or GTN for short.

GTN is one of a group of medicines called ‘nitrates’. These relax the muscles around the blood vessels and make it easier for the heart to do its work.

Nitrolingual GTN Spray helps stop the pain of angina (pain in your chest, arms or neck especially when you exert yourself).

You can also use the medicine immediately before doing things which you know will cause you angina pain.

What is Angina and how does GTN Spray work?

The heart is the most important muscle in the human body. It is responsible for transporting the blood evenly through the blood vessels. If the circulation in and to the heart muscle is impeded, patients can experience episodes of chest pain known as angina.

These kinds of episodes are often accompanied by a feeling of tightness, shortness of breath and panic. In these cases, acute relief is important in order to dilate (widen) the blood vessels and ensure an adequate oxygen supply.

GTN Spray relieves symptoms of angina by relaxing your blood vessels thereby reducing the amount of work your heart has to do.

How should I take GTN Spray?

Nitrolingual Glyceryl Trinitrate Spray (GTN Spray) is a prescription drug.

Always take this medicine exactly as described in the product leaflet or as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you.

Check with your doctor, pharmacist or nurse if you are not sure.

The spray is meant for use under your tongue and is not meant to be inhaled.

It is recommended to spray one or two puffs under your tongue.

If symptoms do not resolve, you can repeat this at 5 minute intervals for a maximum of three puffs.

If, after that, your symptoms have still not resolved, please seek immediate medical attention.

The spray should work quickly and last about half an hour.
