Amalgam capsules for dental filling in a choice of spherical or admix with a wide range of setting speeds, silver contents and types.

What is Dental Amalgam?

Dental amalgam is a mixture of mercury and a powdered alloy made up of silver, copper and tin that provides a cost effective, hard and durable tooth filling.

Amalgam fillings have been phased out in many countries due to concern about the environmental and health impacts of mercury but in the UK they remain a popular choice due to their cost effectiveness and ease of placement.

Dental amalgam is considered safe by major dental and health organizations with studies finding no links to adverse health effects.

Due to the precautionary principle, for young children, pregnant women and nursing mothers amalgam use is discouraged unless it is deemed clinically necessary.

Amalgam fillings can last up to 20 years.

Which Amalgam Caspules should I choose for my patients?

The type of amalgam selected will depend on the patient and the cavity size and type requiring filling. Amalgam with a higher silver content will appear lighter in colour giving a more aesthetic result.

What are the alternatives to Amalgam?

Modern composite restorative materials designed for bulk filling of large posterior cavities are available offering a more aesthetic restoration.
